چکیده

Studies regarding the role of geochemical processes in urban environmental matrices (UEM) and their influence on respiratory bioaccessibility humans are scarce humid tropical regions, especially Brazil. Contaminated UEM potentially hazardous to if particles <10 μm diameter inhaled reach tracheobronchial region. In this study, we evaluated samples collected Brazilian UEMs with a large liability left by former mining industries city strong industrial expansion. were classified into soil, sediment mine tailings according characteristics collection sites. The harmful elements (PHE) was using artificial lysosomal fluid (ALF, pH 4.5), BCR-sequential extraction performed evaluate how PHE related solid phase partitioning. bioaccessible fraction (BAF) ranged from 54 98% for Cd; 21–89% Cu; 46–140% Pb, 35–88% Mn and; 41–84% Zn. average BAF decreased following order: Soil: Cd > Pb Zn Tailing: Sediments: Cu. BCR-fractions useful predict (R2 = 0.79–0.98), thus suggesting that particle geochemistry mineralogy can behaviour pulmonary fluid. Therefore, approach provides combination quantitative qualitative data, which allows us carry out more realistic assessment current situation contaminated site possible alternatives decision making stakeholders.

Sources, Mobility and Bioaccessibility of Potentially Harmful Elements in UK Soils

Potentially harmful elements (PHE) occur both naturally from geogenic sources and from anthropogenic derived pollution. Anthropogenic sources can be further categorised into those derived from point sources. A point source is a single identifiable source which is confined to a very small area such as that arising from disposal of waste material or from an industrial plant. Diffuse pollution ari...

Geochemistry, mineralogy, solid-phase fractionation and oral bioaccessibility of lead in urban soils of Lisbon.

An urban survey of Lisbon, the largest city in Portugal, was carried out to investigate its environmental burden, emphasizing metallic elements and their public health impacts. This paper examines the geochemistry of lead (Pb) and its influence on human health data. A total of 51 soil samples were collected from urban recreational areas used by children to play outdoors. The semi-quantitative a...

Urban soil geochemistry in Athens, Greece: The importance of local geology in controlling the distribution of potentially harmful trace elements.

Understanding urban soil geochemistry is a challenging task because of the complicated layering of the urban landscape and the profound impact of large cities on the chemical dispersion of harmful trace elements. A systematic geochemical soil survey was performed across Greater Athens and Piraeus, Greece. Surface soil samples (0-10cm) were collected from 238 sampling sites on a regular 1×1km gr...

Iridology: not useful and potentially harmful.

More than 1,000 licensed naturopathic physicians practice in the United States, and iridology is being described as "the most valuable diagnostic tool of the naturopath." Some therapists are using iridology as a basis for recommending dietary supplements and/or herbs. Several US iridologist organizations exist: the National Iridology Research Association is an iridologists' service organization...
